AUSTIN, TX (February 19, 2004) — The Aguila Awards Foundation (AAF), a non-profit organization established to create awareness and provide visibility of positive role models in the Central Texas Hispanic community, announced today Austin, TX, will host the 2004 Aguila Awards Gala of Central Texas. This year's awards are being presented in the following categories: Community; Public Service; Education; Media; Music; and Business.
The Aguila Awards Gala of Central Texas addresses two primary needs in the community. First, providing an event which includes representation from Central Texas counties including: Bastrop; Burnet; Caldwell; Hays; Travis; and Williamson. Secondly, providing the Hispanic community the opportunity to voice their support of local talent and accomplishments. Additionally, AAF will make a monetary contribution to the local Hispanic non-profit organization of each of the category winners' choice.
The 2004 nominees are: Community–AVANCE-Austin, National Hispanic Institute, and Round Rock Health Clinic; Public Service–Bastrop County Sheriff Richard Hernandez, Leander City Councilman John Perez, and San Marcos City Councilman John Diaz; Education–Southwestern University, Texas State University, and the University of Texas at Austin; Music–Del Castillo, Grupo Fantasma, and Los Lonely Boys; Media–El Mundo Newspaper, Exitos Radio, and Univision-KAKW; Business –The Barr Company, Café Serranos, and Marta's Desserts.
“What makes this event unique, is it gives the entire Hispanic community a chance to participate via a People's Choice voting format,” stated Roxana Estrada, Executive Director, Aguila Awards Foundation. “Central Texas continues to have one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the U.S.—our event will recognize the positive impact this growth has had in central Texas, as well as the rest of the country.”
After a thorough selection process, AAF has chosen Austin-based Estrada Communications Group, Inc. (ECG) as its marketing communications agency of record. ECG will provide all development, promotions, media relations, and marketing services for AAF in its inaugural year.
