Miss Venezuela to star in Pizza Hut's "The Big New Yorker" national television spots. INTERNATIONAL CELEBRITY MISS VENEZUELA, CAROLINA INDRIAGO TO REPRESENT LATINO COMMUNITY IN PIZZA HUT'S LARGEST NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION IN HISTORY Irvine, CA. (February 15, 1999) Pizza Hut, Inc. joined today with Miss Venezuela, Carolina Indriago, to announce the restaurant's debut of "The Big New Yorker" its largest new product introduction in history. Miss Venezuela will star in Pizza Hut's Spanish-language television spots to be aired throughout the United States and Latin America. The commercial will give millions of Americans their first opportunity to see and hear the beauty pageant winner and learn about Pizza Hut's authentic New York-style street-corner pizza. "This is a tremendous honor to be a part of Pizza Hut's largest ever new product introduction effort," said Miss Venezuela. "The commercial plays into a light-hearted "fictional" male-oriented theme. I enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of the campaign, as a Latina I am pleased to see such a large company address the Hispanic community as a consumer and a viable resource." The Big New Yorker Pizza's star-studded advertising campaign features not only Miss Venezuela, but three of the most recognizable New Yorkers Fran Drescher, Spike Lee and Donald Trump. Lee's production company, "40 Acres and a Mule," is working to produce the ads in which he appears. Everything about The Big New Yorker Pizza is big, from the larger-than-life celebrities that star in the commercials, to the newly designed Pizza Hut web site: at www.pizzahut.com. "America associates great pizza with New York-style pizza, in fact, they crave it," said Mike Rawlings, chief concept officer of Pizza Hut, Inc. "However, until the introduction of The Big New Yorker Pizza, only one-third of the population actually ever tried a true New York-style pizza. The Big New Yorker Pizza gives consumers a slice of New York right in their own home." The Big New Yorker Pizza is a genuine, traditional style pizza with all of the unique characteristics of a great New York-style pizza including a bigger, 16 inch crust with larger holdable, foldable slices, a more savory, sweeter sauce and toppings baked on top of 100% real cheese. The Big New Yorker Pizza's slices are so big; consumers have to eat the pizza like a true New Yorker by folding in half to eat the slice sideways. The value is just as big, with a price that starts at $9.99 for a one topping pizza. "New York City has undergone a dramatic renaissance under the leadership of Mayor Rudy Giuliani, so we've created an unprecedented 'cross promotion' that launches The Big New Yorker Pizza and encourages tourism to the great city. The Big New Yorker Pizza is a tribute to one of the best cities in the nation," Rawlings said. Pizza Hut is donating $100,000 to the Administration for Children's Services (ACS). Mayor Giuliani created ACS in 1996 with the mission of ensuring the safety and well being of New York City's children by strengthening and improving services for them. The promotional campaign will generate 100 million impressions for New York City tourism per month by including the tagline and official city web site address, "Experience a Bigger Slice of New York City ... visit www.ci.nyc.ny.us " on The Big New Yorker Pizza boxes; print material including 60 million coupons a month and restaurant materials. Pizza Hut also will link their web site, which receives at least 30,000 visits per month to the New York City site. Pizza Hut, a division of Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: YUM) is the world's largest pizza restaurant company, with more than 7,200 restaurants and delivery units in the Unites States and more than 3,000 units in 86 countries. With more than 40 years of making and serving great pizza, the company is the recognized leader of the $25 billion pizza category.
