News/Noticias Reza named 1998-99 winner of Sam M. Walton Entrepreneur Award. Bentonville, AR (March 29, 1999) Rose Marie Reza is the 1998-99 winner of the Sam M. Walton Entrepreneur Award. She was selected from company-wide competition for best exemplifying Wal-Mart's core beliefs Respect for the Individual, Service to the Customer, and Commitment to Excellence. Reza was also cited for her superior management skills in establishing an under-performing metropolitan market into a major profit contributor for the corporation. "Rose Reza's contributions have been felt throughout the company," stated Rob Walton, Chairman of the Wal-Mart Board of Directors during the presentation of the award at the company's annual kick-off meeting, which was held in Kansas City, in late January. "She has continuously demonstrated the same type of entrepreneurial skills that characterized our founder Sam Walton," he added. According to Walton, Reza's success during her 12-year career with Wal-Mart is a testimony to her hard work and dedication. The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native joined Wal-Mart in 1986, as a management trainee from the University of New Mexico. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration and began her career as an Assistant Store Manager in Amarillo, Texas. In the early 1990's, she managed her first stores in Paige, Arizona, and shortly thereafter, in Flagstaff. She was then transferred to corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, as a Regional Personnel Manager. In 1995, she was promoted to District Manager, responsible for store operations in Miami, Florida. In 1998, Reza was promoted to Regional Vice President and became the first Latina to reach this level of executive management at Wal-Mart. Reza is now responsible for the overall operations of over 450 Wal-Mart stores throughout Florida. "With my previous successes I never imagined too many more meaningful rewards in my Wal-Mart career," said Reza. "To be honored for the work I truly enjoy and in which I take so much pride is a real thrill to be compared to Sam Walton is overwhelming," she added. Reza remains active in many areas besides her career. In addition to extensive community involvement, she plays the guitar and piano, loves listening to and singing all types of Latino music, and works with wood, ceramics, and oil paints. Wal-Mart
