News/Noticias WAL-MART continues support of NCLR Annual Convention. Riverside, CA (May 25, 2000) In preparation of it's Annual Conference in San Diego, CA., the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the nation's largest constituency-based Hispanic organization, announced today Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will continue its support of the organization. Wal-Mart recently demonstrated this partnership through the sponsorship of a Community Leader's Breakfast in Fresno, CA., and Community Leader's Luncheon in Riverside, CA. Working through local and national affiliate organizations, NCLR and Wal-Mart hosted the events May 24 and 25 respectively. Each event showcased highlights of past conferences and previewed what to expect at this year's convention. "Wal-Mart recognizes NCLR for its accomplishments in developing significant awareness of the needs, interests, and perspectives of Hispanics. NCLR's support for Hispanic youth in the areas of education, economic and career development, and goal attainment, is unparalleled," said Jon Sims, Regional Vice President, Wal-Mart Stores, California. "We are honored once again to partner with NCLR, promoting strong families and communities," he added. In addition to promoting the conference in San Diego, the events allowed NCLR to share insights, and discuss issues of mutual concern with local, regional, and national civic leaders along with corporate representatives from Wal-Mart. NCLR's Annual Convention will be held in San Diego, CA., July 1-5, with this year's theme "La Onda LatinaShaping a Greater America for the 21st Century." As the nation's largest employer of Hispanics and African-Americans, Wal-Mart also is committed to working with several national organizations and scholarship programs to help qualified minority students pursue higher education.
