Wal-Mart and USHCC will partner with the City of San Diego, San Diego Unified School District, and the San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to identify qualified youth at the Junior High, Senior High and College levels. One student from each level will be recognized. While junior and senior high nominees must be San Diego residents, nominations for the college-level award were accepted nationwide. "To receive financial support from Wal-Mart demonstrates we are having success in identifying to corporate America the importance of educating Hispanics, and it represents Wal-Mart's commitment to education in local communities" he added. Award recipients will receive a $1,000.00 Scholarship, three tickets to the USHCC 20th Annual National Convention Gala and Millennium Ball, and preferred placement in the USHCC Internship Program. The Hispanic Youth Leadership Awards Selection Committee will determine award recipients. "As a corporate leader in Hispanic consumer marketing, we have a responsibility to support issues that benefit the Latino community and the nation, namely the issue of education," said Goodwin. "Higher education is critical to preparing our youth for success in the next century," he added.
